Blackburn Rovers have signed Macclesfield starlet Nick Blackman for an undisclosed fee.

The striker initially trained at Ewood Park earlier in the season when invited to do so by then Rovers boss Paul Ince.

It is only since the opening of the transfer window that the Premier League club have been able to complete a deal for a player who has made just one start for Macclesfield, almost 12 months ago.

Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander accepts the move to Blackburn represents an excellent chance for Blackman to improve himself.

"Nick has a wonderful opportunity and given he wasn't guaranteed a first-team place at the Moss Rose this season, it would have been wrong to stand in his way," Alexander told the club's official website.

"It will be interesting to see how he develops at Ewood Park and we all of course wish him well."
