Pulis brave-faced after loss

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis praised his players after they came so close against Chelsea but admitted he was 'desperately disappointed' to lose late on.

The Potters looked to be heading for a shock victory at Stamford Bridge after Rory Delap handed them the lead on the hour mark.

But the Blues battled back in dramatic circumstances, with Juliano Belletti and Frank Lampard both on target in the dying moments.

Pulis hailed the work-rate of his players, while he admitted he is looking to further bolster his side with some new additions before the close of the winter transfer window.

He told Sky Sports: "We are obviously disappointed. We have had to defend for 90 minutes, almost.

"The players gave it everything. We have got to give our lads real credit for the way they worked.

"We are desperately disappointed. But they are a good side, Chelsea, and full credit to them.

"We will take a lot of positives out of this. We are looking to bring one or two others in."

Pulis also praised debutant James Beattie after the former Sheffield United striker assisted Delap's opener.

"He was smashing. I think James played really well today," added Pulis.
