Jason Roberts insists Blackburn cannot take their foot off the pedal after climbing out of the relegation zone with a 3-0 win over Newcastle.
Rovers have turned around their season following Sam Allardyce's appointment last month after taking eight points from his first four league games at the helm.
Roberts' brace in their win over Newcastle has lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time in two months, but the experienced striker knows the job is far from complete.
The 30-year-old believes the team are ambitious and that just securing their top-flight status for another season is not good enough for the Lancashire outfit.
"We need to maintain our form and keep kicking up the league. We believe we should be higher, but we have no God-given right," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"With the teams down there, you know if you are not performing you will find yourself back down there again. This is the start of a new challenge in my opinion.
"We have a big job to do, we know that. We have a lot of making up to do but if we keep performing like that I think we will be OK."
Roberts had been linked with a possible move away from Ewood Park after slipping down the club's pecking order, but now says he is fully focused on helping the team up the Premier League ladder.
"We want to be kicking on and I plan to help this team climb the league," he continued.
"I am genuinely not thinking about anything else, I am totally focused on helping this club.
"It is dangerous to start running before you can walk. We are out of the bottom three now but we want to be in the top half of the league as soon as possible.
"Then we can start thinking about all the exciting things ahead. For me, I am totally focused on the games ahead."
