Moyes pleased with progress

Everton boss David Moyes is delighted at the manner in which his side have gone about their business this season.

The Toffees have never been flushed with cash, with their transfer policies based more on obtaining value for money than attracting big-name stars.

As a result few new recruits were added to the squad over the summer, with a quiet January window also expected at Goodison Park.

Bolstering a threadbare attacking unit may result in a new arrival of some description before the 2nd February deadline, but Moyes believes he already has enough quality at his disposal to remain in the hunt for Europe.

"We were certainly not ready at the beginning of the season. Some of our players were not back to fitness and we were not in the right condition," said the Scot, reflecting on the club's difficult start to the campaign.

"And that showed in the early part of the season. But when we have our players fit and available, we are a very good team.

"In my period at the club and with the players we have, that stability is clear."

Everton currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, with a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Merseyside neighbours Liverpool on Monday exemplifying the spirit which exists in Moyes' camp.

"We played with confidence and defended very well in important parts of the game," he added.

"For us it is another point against a really good team who are buying players to win championships. We are not.

"So these sort of results show how far Everton have come. The stability we have at our club gives us the strength to come to a really big club and get a good result.

"We achieved things we wanted to achieve. We disrupted Liverpool's rhythm, they have a lot of mechanical, organised, moves and set-ups in their play.

"They are a very good team, that is why they are going for the Premier League title. For us to give them a good game says more about Everton than them.

"A point away from home against a good side with aspirations of winning the title is very encouraging for us. I hope that some day we have those aspirations, but not quite yet."
