Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear is in no rush to pen a new long-term contract at St James' Park.
Kinnear's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, and he recently revealed owner Mike Ashley has offered him a "very lucrative" contract.
And the former Wimbledon chief, who was initially brought to Tyneside on an interim basis, is keen to ensure he has the power to create his own team.
He said: "Can I bring in the players I want - and can I get rid of the players I don't want?
"I've got an offer of a two-and-a-half-year contract here and I'm just mulling it over.
"I'll make that decision later. I've got the offer in writing and I'm quite happy with everything except one or two things I want to sort out."
