Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear believes the club are still capable of a 'respectable' finish in the Premier League's top six.
Kinnear's temporary tenure endured its most turbulent phase over the festive period as the Magpies suffered defeat at Wigan and a home hammering against Liverpool.
However, Kinnear - who was appointed to steady the Toon ship following the shock departure of Kevin Keegan in September - remains 'proud'.
The St James' Park boss has a contract to the end of the season and he is optimistic that 14th-placed Newcastle can finish in a positive position.
Kinnear said in the Daily Mirror: "What price a flutter on us reaching the top six?
"I am proud of what we have achieved so far and I feel we can build on it.
"I am only looking ahead and only looking upwards, and I think we can get a respectable finish because this division is so close."
