Johnson inks Pompey deal

Portsmouth defender Glen Johnson has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with the club.

The 24-year-old England international had been linked with a move away from Fratton Park but is now committed to the South Coast club until the end of the 2012/13 season.

The deal is a real fillip for manager Tony Adams following the recent losses of Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe to Real Madrid and Tottenham respectively.

"It's great news that Glen's decided to sign a new contract," Adams told the club's official website.

"I'm delighted to have him here - I want him here for a long time.

"This is a good place for him. He's got back in the England squad since he came here.

"Glen's applied himself really well. He's always desperate to play and gets frustrated when he can't.

"He's been very good for this club and this club's been very good for him."
