Hughes urges Kaka swoop

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes believes the club will never have a better opportunity to sign Brazilian superstar Kaka.

Speculation continues to suggest the Blues are on the brink of completing a record-breaking move for the AC Milan playmaker.

The Italian giants are resigned to the fact that they will be forced to part with their star man should he agree to take on a new challenge in England.

The figures involved would be too good for Milan to turn down, even for a man widely regarded as one of the finest talents in world football.

The ongoing saga is set to take a new twist on Monday when Kaka's father Bosco Leite arrives in Italy for talks with Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and City representatives.

Hughes is hoping these discussions will help to bring the South American one step closer to agreeing a switch to Eastlands, with the Welshman aware that opportunities such as this do not present themselves all that often.

"It may be that in the future a deal to bring Kaka to Manchester City will never present itself again. So when it does, you have to follow it through," Hughes said.

"You have to react quickly when the opportunity comes to acquire a player of that standard. You can't hang about and think we'll wait until the next window.

"If we can do it, we feel it would be fantastic for this club. But there are a lot of things to be addressed before we get there."

Meanwhile, Hughes has hit back at reports questioning how City can justify such a substantial outlay during the global credit crunch.

"I have been a little disappointed about some of the reactions to the prospect of a fantastic player coming to City," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"There are some elements of the media who are talking about a deal and how much Kaka is going to earn when those things are a long way from being talked about.

"It is being said that the player is going to get a level of wealth that some people are saying is obscene when the club are not even having those talks yet.

"People are going to have to bide their time and realise it is not a deal that is going to happen in 24 hours."
