Hughes eyes quick-fire deals

Mark Hughes hopes to bring new faces to Manchester City in the first week of the transfer window.

The Eastlands boss has been strongly linked with a raid on former club Blackburn for striker Roque Santa Cruz, while Chelsea's Wayne Bridge is also rumoured to be a target.

City are expected to be the big spenders in the winter window due to the finances of club owners the Abu Dhabi United Group, who took over in September.

And Hughes is optimistic he will have secured some of the targets on his transfer list in the opening week of 2009.

"Ideally we will do something as quickly as we can," Hughes told Sky Sports News in an exclusive interview. "Things are moving so hopefully something will happen sooner rather than later.

"We are getting positive indications on a number of targets, but how soon they will be completed is anyone's guess.

"We are hopeful that maybe by this time next week we will have new players at the club.

"We have got a number of targets that we think can improve the squad.

"It is not easy to do business in January, but we will try our best to get players here."

But Hughes has reiterated that City will not pay inflated prices for any potential acquisitions.

"We have placed market values on the players and we will not go way above what we think the players are worth," concluded Hughes.
