Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper has signed a new three-year contract at St James' Park.
The 33-year-old has inked an extension which keeps him at the club until 2012, increasing speculation that Shay Given is set to leave.
Given is a target of Manchester City and the two sides are reported to be set to agree terms before transfer deadline day on 2nd February.
Harper, who began his career at Newcastle in 1993, has been Given's long-standing understudy and the Durham-born shot-stopper could be expected to fill any void on Tyneside.
And Harper is pleased to have secured his future, telling the club's official website: "I'm a North East lad and Newcastle United has always been a huge part of my life and I'm delighted that will continue.
"At the end of this contract I will have been at Newcastle for 19 seasons which is more than half of my life so that shows how much this club always meant to me.
"I'm delighted it's sorted and now I can concentrate on doing what I have always done which is working hard in training and push my claims for regular first-team football."
