Gill brushes off Rafa rant

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has hit back at Rafa Benitez's astonishing outburst at the club.

The Liverpool boss launched into a tirade last week, accusing the Red Devils of hypocrisy and serial whingeing.

The Spaniard also questioned Gill's position as a senior figure at the Football Association, claiming the role constituted a 'conflict of interest'.

However, the United supremo has brushed off the allegations and is refusing to dwell on a matter he deems 'irrelevant in the grand scheme of things'.

"I was elected over the summer by the Premier League clubs. I'm very clear in my role," said Gill.

"I think it is totally incorrect to assert that," Gill added, referring to the conflict of interest accusation.

"It's not how I work. I do not think I would have been elected for the last two years if that was the case. He missed the boat completely."
