Giggs - Title race not over

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs believes that the strength of the Premier League title chasers can only be judged when the season comes to a head.

United are currently on a six-match winning streak and have stormed to the top of the table in recent weeks - prompting many to suggest that the title is now theirs to lose.

But with European football not yet resumed and numerous games still to play for each side, Giggs feels that the race is far from decided.

"There is a long way to go and there are some good teams up there - Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa - it's all close," the 35-year-old told the Daily Express.

"The testing time will maybe come when it is the last stages of the Champions League, the FA Cup and important league games. That is when your squad becomes crucial.

"Hopefully the players we've had injured will all be back. All you can hope for is a strong squad to choose from and to finish the end of the season strongly."

After undertaking an exhausting journey to the Far East during December, few had expected United to recover a seven-point deficit on the league leaders so quickly and end January atop the Premier League table.

However Giggs feels that claiming the Club World Cup title may have served as a timely boost for the club.

"We had to do the Tokyo trip, but we knew if we won the tournament it would set us nicely for when we came back," he added.

"No one really capitalised on us being away and we have turned it around quicker than we expected, but we just hoped that would happen."
