Drogba has Blues future

Chelsea's assistant coach Ray Wilkins insists Didier Drogba still has a future at the club.

The Ivorian striker was omitted from the Blues' squad for their FA Cup third round replay at Southend on Wednesday, sparking speculation that he could be heading for a January exit.

The African ace has been consistently linked with a move to Inter Milan in the past, with former Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho now in charge of the Italian giants.

However, Wilkins insists the decision to take Drogba out of the firing line in midweek was purely tactical and expects the talismanic frontman to be pushing for a starting berth when Luiz Felipe Scolari's side entertain Stoke on Saturday.

"That was just a selection policy of Felipe," he said.

"We have a very big squad, some exceptional players and Felipe felt Nicolas (Anelka) was the man to take the field tonight.

"Whether Didier will be included at the weekend, we don't know, but he is certainly a very valuable member of our staff.

"I do not know whether Felipe has met with Didier, but from what I have seen on the training pitch, it certainly does not give to the fact they are at breaking point."
