Calve up for English switch

Nancy defender Jean Calve admits reported interest from the Premier League is appealing to him.

The 24-year-old is believed to have received approaches from Blackburn and Stoke as the race for his signature hots up.

He has been told that he is free to leave Stade Marcel Picot if an offer of around £1million is forthcoming.

Calve, who only joined Nancy from Le Mans last summer, is currently out of favour in his homeland and admits he would welcome a new challenge in a different country.

"I can confirm Stoke and Blackburn have been in contact," he said.

"They've been in touch with my club and once they reach an agreement they can agree a deal with me.

"I don't have a preference between them. I'll need to see which one offers me the better challenge and what they expect from me.

"I don't fear any unpleasant surprises if I join one of them. I'm temped by the prospect of playing in England.

"The moment I learned that I had the green light to leave Nancy, I told them that I wanted to go."
