Steve Bruce admits not many managers come out on top in a battle of minds with his old Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Liverpool chief Rafa Benitez took on Ferguson last week after criticising the Scot's conduct towards referees and his gripes about the fixture list.
Ferguson dismissed Benitez's comments as 'ridiculous' after United closed the gap on the Premier League leaders to five points after a 3-0 home win over Chelsea.
Bruce, who takes his Wigan team to Old Trafford on Wednesday night, is happy to see Liverpool challenging for the title, but acknowledged Ferguson's mastery of mind games.
"Not really," Bruce told Sky Sports News when asked if it was a wise decision to take Ferguson on. "I can't see many winners.
"It's all part and parcel of what's going to be an exciting run-in and I hope there are two or three teams in it.
"It's quite refreshing that Liverpool are there to challenge. We haven't seen it for so long, but by the looks of it, they could be the one that's going to really, really challenge them."
The Wigan boss added: "When you are in this job, especially when you get to the top, the one thing you're going to have to deal with, if you're the manager of Manchester United, or the manager of Liverpool, is obviously handling the pressure.
"If you can't handle the pressure, you've got no chance, you've got to handle it. Managing big clubs like that, the one thing you're going to have to do is get used to that.
"I think there's a lot of mind games come into it, and lots of things will be said, and I'm sure written, over the next few months."
