Adams delighted with additions

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams is confident Hayden Mullins will prove a success at Fratton Park, while he sees fellow new signing Pele as a future prospect.

Pompey announced the double signing on Monday, with Mullins arriving on a three-and-a-half-year deal from West Ham United and Pele joining on loan from Porto.

Adams had been looking to reinforce his midfield after losing Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid and Papa Bouba Diop to a long-term injury.

Of 29-year-old Mullins, he told Sky Sports News: "I have looked at over 150 players and Hayden was one that knows the division.

"I am looking for him to play a midfield dog's job for us. Sit in there and break things up for us.

"Work hard, win his fights. Secure us defensively. Keep the ball very simple and change the sides with his play."

On Pele, Adams said: "He is maybe one for the future. I have seen him play a couple of times for Portugal Under 21s. He looks a good talent.

"I know (Portugal manager) Carlos Queiroz was very complementary about him, and also Man United were kind of half-looking at him.

"We are going to keep him for a little while and see if he can pick up the pace. He is looking encouraging.

"Maybe I will use him this season. He is a strong boy and has a good engine. He is technically very good."
