Arsenal have been encouraged to make a £20million bid for Andrei Arshavin by Zenit St Petersburg.
Arshavin is looking to leave the Uefa Cup holders in January and has been given permission to negotiate with other clubs.
He has previously been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, but North London rivals Arsenal are now rumoured to be leading the chase.
And Zenit's general director Maxim Mitrofanov is hoping that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will make an offer for the playmaker in the coming days.
"The price tag for Arshavin is £20m and we are hopeful that Arsenal will make such an offer soon," Mitrofanov told Radio Echo Moskvy.
Arshavin has established himself as one of European football's hottest properties in the past 12 months following his performances for Zenit and Russia.
The 27-year-old was a key figure as Zenit won last season's Uefa Cup and also took the eye for Russia at Euro 2008.
He admitted a dream to play for Barcelona over the summer, but continues to be linked with a big-money move to the Premier League.
Zenit coach Dick Advocaat recently called on the club to allow Arshavin to leave and he is expected to seal a transfer when the window reopens next month.
