Blackburn chairman John Williams has told Sky Sports News how hard it was to sack Paul Ince as manager.
Rovers axed Ince on Tuesday after just six months in charge at Ewood Park.
Williams admits it was a tough decision, but he insisted it was the right one.
"It was very difficult, and not something we like to do at all," Williams told Sky Sports News.
"But we have to think first and foremost only about the club.
"Our predicament is a worry and in the end we had to make a decision in our best interests.
"We are halfway through the season and are getting detached at the bottom, poor form, poor run of results and a disappointing performance at the weekend and frankly it is time to change in order to make sure the club retain its status."
Williams admits he was disappointed to have seen Ince's tenure end in this manner.
"Very disappointing and not the way we wanted things to work out at all," he said.
"Our focus now is clearly on going forward."
