Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp praised the performance of Heurelho Gomes against Manchester United but hinted he could buy a new goalkeeper in January.
Gomes was drained of confidence earlier in the season after a series of blunders.
But he has now put in five polished performances on the spin after Spurs secured a 0-0 draw with defending Premier League champions United on Saturday.
The Brazilian's best saves came from a Ji-Sung Park effort and an injury-time Ryan Giggs' free-kick.
And with the New Year transfer window approaching, Redknapp has challenged Gomes to maintain his current form.
"I've got confidence in him," said Redknapp. "Whether I bring another keeper onto the staff is another matter.
"He's been excellent and if he can keep these performances up we haven't got a problem.
"But I'd like to bring in another keeper as cover or someone to battle it out with him."
Redknapp was encouraged by the stalemate against United but saw Jermaine Jenas (calf) and Jonathan Woodgate (back) limp off with injuries, while Ledley King could not play because of his knee.
Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka are also cup-tied for this week's Uefa Cup clash against Spartak Moscow.
"It's a big headache," Redknapp admitted. "We're not overloaded. We've lost two centre-halves and haven't got cover apart from the two that played.
"We are short and we have too many games. We have the Uefa Cup this week and to be honest I wish we didn't."
