Redknapp fears City riches

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp fears Manchester City could end up winning the battle to sign Craig Bellamy from West Ham.

Spurs have already had one offer, thought to be in the region of £6million, turned down for the striker and are set to go back with an improved bid.

However, it is believed City manager Mark Hughes, who worked with the player at Blackburn Rovers and during his time in charge of Wales, is also keen to recruit the 29-year-old.

Redknapp admits he cannot hope to compete with the riches available at Eastlands since the arrival of the Abu Dhabi United Group.

"I think there will be more offers, Manchester City are supposed to be very interested but he belongs to West Ham and if they decide they do not want to sell him then it's up to them," he said.

"It depends. I'll speak to the chairman but if Man City are in for him then it is very difficult to compete with them - they can throw millions and millions at everything."

Redknapp's need to strengthen in attack was highlighted again on Boxing Day, as Spurs were held to a 0-0 draw by Fulham at White Hart Lane.

Bellamy, who moved to Upton Park from Liverpool in a £7.5m deal back in 2007, bagged a brace in West Ham's impressive 4-1 win away at Portsmouth.
