Pulis hails 'great response'

Stoke boss Tony Pulis was delighted to see his side snatch an unlikely point at Newcastle on Saturday.

The Potters appeared to be heading towards defeat on Tyneside when they went in at the break 2-0 down.

However, a remarkable second half fightback saw them bombard the home side's defence and take a share of the spoils.

Mamady Sidibe and Abdoulaye Faye helped to cancel out a Michael Owne brace and Pulis was full of praise for the battling qualities displayed by his players.

"In the first 20 minutes we were so second best it was ridiculous," he told Sky Sports.

"We stood off and never really got to grips with them at all.

"I had few choice words at half-time, it was the first time really that I have lost my temper with them, and second half was a great response.

"The second half was the way you want it to be.

"We haven't got the quality other teams in the Premier League have got, and we accept that. But you can get away with good organisation and team work and we have shown today that if they are committed as a group then you can get results.

"It's a good point for us and we're very pleased. It was a good response, but we know it's going to be a long, hard season and we will keep working hard."

Faye levelled matters in injury-time, with questions raised as to where the five added minutes came from.

Pulis, though, believes the match officials got their calculations spot on and feels Newcastle can only have themselves to blame for failing to concentrate right to the last.

"I thought there should have been more - how many substitutions were there?" he added.

"If you play for 95 minutes, it happens and you have to remain focused."
