Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has yet to make enquiries about potential transfer targets but confesses he is looking to strengthen his squad.
Villa have been linked with Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe and Tottenham's Darren Bent as reports claim O'Neill is keen to reinforce his attacking options.
However, the Villa boss has rubbished the speculation and insists he has not approached any club regarding potential signings.
"I have not enquired about one player," O'Neill told Sky Sports News.
"So all the speculation flying around, which I expect to be honest, there is not a grain of truth.
"I also don't think that anyone has enquired on my behalf."
O'Neill, though, admits he will be looking to add to his squad in the New Year as Villa - who travel to Hull City live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1 on Tuesday - chase a place in the UEFA Champions League.
"As I have said, this January window is the only opportunity that you get to try and look at your squad and see if it needs bolstering," added O'Neill.
"I believe it does, which could be the more difficult task."
