Neville calls for respect

Gary Neville is convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Manchester United despite fresh speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Real were interested in signing Ronaldo throughout the summer but United fought hard to keep the Portuguese winger.

Transfer talk has resurfaced this week after Real director Pedro Trapote was quoted as saying that the Spanish club had a deal in place to sign Ronaldo at the end of the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson quickly denied the reports and Ronaldo also stressed that he is happy playing at Old Trafford.

Neville has now hit out at Real for acting improperly and paid tribute to Ronaldo for making a fine start to the season.

Ronaldo is back to his best following injury and Neville insists United will not be selling the 23-year-old.

"There should be a level of respect shown between the clubs," Neville said in The Times.

"The speculation will always be there and as a player there is nothing you can do, but I do know Manchester United have never sold a player they wanted to keep, and they want to keep Ronaldo.

"He was outstanding last season and having found his feet after injury is now getting to that level again."
