Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has laughed off reports that he has applied for the post of Sunderland manager.
Kinnear was initially handed the St James' Park job on an interim basis in the wake of Kevin Keegan's September departure with owner Mike Ashley looking to sell the club, before extending that deal until the end of the season.
The Magpies' bitter North East rivals are searching for a new manager following Roy Keane's decision to quit the Stadium of Light, with coach Ricky Sbragia the new favourite to be handed the job after two wins from his three games in charge.
Reports in a Sunday newspaper claimed that Kinnear had thrown his hat into the ring to swap Tyneside for Wearside, but the former Wimbledon boss has brushed aside the suggestion.
He told Sky Sports: "I think someone has been at the Christmas sherry, to be honest.
"Every week there's a different story in this part of the world, since I've arrived here it is KK is back or Alan Shearer is taking over.
"Today it's I'm going to Sunderland. I know nothing about these things, I don't even know where they're getting this sort of stuff.
"I'm focused on the job I'm doing, I'm delighted to be at Newcastle, it's a very proud moment for me to be working at a place like this.
"I'll honour my contract whatever happens here. I'm here to the end of the season, for sure. After that, who knows?"
