Wigan striker Emile Heskey is looking to resolve his future as he prepares to meet with chairman Dave Whelan.
Heskey's contract is set to run out at the end of the season and Whelan is determined not to let the striker leave for free in the summer.
On the other hand, manager Steve Bruce is desperate for the club not to sell the England man for cheap in the January transfer window as he looks to keep his side in the Premier League for the fourth successive year.
The 30-year-old has scored just twice in the league all season and whilst Heskey has never been regarded as an out and out goal scorer it is his ability to bring others into play which has attracted interest from a number of clubs.
The former Leicester man has been rejuvenated at Wigan after signing for £5.5million from Birmingham in 2006 and has seen himself become a main man in Fabio Capello's England team this season.
It has been his recent displays for his country that have sparked rumours that the likes of Liverpool and Aston Villa are set to swoop for the striker in January.
"He (Whelan) came to me in July and he said he had interest, and if I wanted to leave he would respect that," Heskey said.
"But I haven't said anything to him, and he hasn't said anything to me, so it is the same situation."
Heskey is said to believe that he can do a job in the UEFA Champions League which would put a return to former club Liverpool as a distinct possibility, but for now the Wigan striker is concentrating on playing for his current club.
He said: "I'm a Wigan player. Whoever doesn't put a shift in for the club they are playing for really needs to leave.
"I'm trying my hardest here, and everyone else is. Kevin Kilbane, Henri Camara and Ryan Taylor are out of contract like I am, and nothing much is said about them, they are brushed to one side.
"We're all in the same boat and want to do well for Wigan while we have contract."
