Ferguson happy with squad

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is not planning to make any new signings in January.

Ferguson was relatively quiet during the summer window, adding only £30million striker Dimitar Berbatov to his squad.

The Premier League champions recently applied for a work permit for Zoran Tosic ahead of the January transfer window, although personal terms have yet to be agreed for the Serbian winger.

Tosic's compatriot Adem Ljajic is also a target for United, but the young duo would certainly be seen as players for the long-term future.

And though United are battling for success on four fronts, having lifted the Club World Cup at the weekend, Ferguson does not believe he needs any big-name signings in the New Year.

The United boss is confident the squad he currently has at his disposal will prove to be strong enough to challenge for further silverware in the second half of the season.

"I do not think there will be any January transfers," said Ferguson. "I am happy with what I have got.

"We are probably going to bring back a couple of young players who have been on loan. That may just give us extra protection.

"We took 23 players to Japan and they are very substantial players. I would be happy to play any one of them."
