Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Paul Ince can be a success at Blackburn Rovers, providing he is given time to turn the club's season around.
Rovers have slipped to 19th in the Premier League after a run of nine games without a win - a sequence started by a 2-0 home defeat by Ferguson's Manchester United side.
Ince also suffered defeat against his old boss in midweek as United won a thrilling Carling Cup tie 5-3 to reach the semi-finals.
Blackburn face leaders Liverpool on Saturday and reports are suggesting that Ince only has a few more games to save a job he took on in the summer.
But the former United midfielder has received support from Ferguson, who believes Ince has the qualities to be a successful Premier League manager.
"There is no longer a Jack Walker with lots of money," said Ferguson. "He has lost a couple of players, but provided his club give him enough time, I'm sure he will be OK.
"Paul is a tough character, as I discovered when he was a player here. He always had something special about him.
"He came from a hard background and that made him all the more determined to do well.
"He has taken that into management and, though he clearly has problems, I think he will come through them."
