Brown admits Black Cats interest

Hull City manager Phil Brown has admitted he would be interested in succeeding Roy Keane at Sunderland.

Brown, who is from the North East, has been linked with the vacant job at the Stadium of Light after doing a fine job at The KC Stadium.

However, while Brown is interested in joining The Black Cats, he has hinted he would likely turn down the position as he has unfinished business with the East Yorkshire outfit.

"Of course it is a job that would interest me - it is one of the top jobs in the country," said Brown.

"But I have got unfinished business here. There is a massive job at Hull City in progress, and I fully intend to see it through."

Ricky Sbragia is currently in caretaker charge at Sunderland and has made himself a contender for the job full-time after following a last-gasp defeat to Manchester United with a 4-0 romp over West Brom.

"As a caretaker, what you are saying to the players is 'Go and get me the job' - if you want it," he continued.

"I don't know if Ricky has come out and said he wants it, but certainly they played for him last week. He is a good coach and he is obviously doing something right.

"I know Ricky. We didn't cross paths at Bolton - he and Sammy Lee came in to replace me and Neil McDonald - but I know him from his Manchester United days as a coach.

"He seems to have arrested the situation - a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United, which was no disgrace, and obviously the 4-0 win again West Brom, which I think caught everyone's eye."

In a bizarre twist Hull City welcome Sunderland to The KC Stadium this weekend and Brown knows it will be a stern test against Sbragia's side.

"They are a good side. Roy brought together a good squad, and a lot of managers would be happy with the front two. It is going to be a tough game."
