Berbatov happy to bounce back

Bulgarian hot-shot Dimitar Berbatov was delighted to net Manchester United's crucial winner against Middlesbrough to bounce back after "the worst week of my life".

The striker was forced to miss United's Fifa Club World Cup success in Japan after being struck down by a virus.

But he has since bounced back by providing the assist for Carlos Tevez's Boxing Day winner against Stoke and then netting the goal against Boro at Old Trafford on Monday.

This latest victory was crucial as league leaders Liverpool had established a 10-point lead at the top the day before.

Berbatov told MUTV: "It was a very important win. It was a must-win game for us and I am glad that we won it. We were the better team and had so many chances to score.

"In the end we scored just once, but it was enough to take the three points. Sometimes 1-0 is enough, and the three points are the most important thing."

United are now seven points behind Liverpool with two games in hand and Berbatov believes the champions are well placed to mount another assault on the title this term.

"We are there, we are right there," he added. "We can win it and we have two games in hand. When we win them it will be good for us, but in the end I think it's in our hands.

"Personally I have plenty more to show. But I'll keep working and with the help of the guys I think we can do a lot."
