Portsmouth manager Tony Adams admitted that his side were lucky after their 3-2 win over Blackburn at Fratton Park on Sunday.
The game exploded into life in the second half after the first period ended goalless.
Goals from Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe put Pompey 2-0 up but the home side surrendered a two-goal advantage for the second time in a matter of days.
Blackburn fought back with goals from Matt Derbyshire and Tugay but a Sean Davis winner gave Adams his first home win as Portsmouth manager.
After the game Adams gave an honest assessment of his side's performance and even stated that the visitors were unlucky not to get anything out of the game.
He told Sky Sports News: "It feels great to get the win but I didn't think it was coming and maybe it was not 100 per cent deserved.
"I feel we didn't play well and Blackburn did play well. Maybe it was because of the AC Milan game on Thursday I'm not sure.
"Maybe it was important for us that they scored early so it gave us time to get back into the game."
Despite his side conceding two more goals at home Adams believes that he must take the positives out of the match.
He said: "We have got to work on the positives. For 15 minutes in the second half we were exceptional where we scored two goals.
"It's taken us five games to be a bit more professional and today we saw Jermain Defoe run the ball into the corner but credit to the guys."
The win takes Portsmouth to eighth in the Premier League just four points off Arsenal in fourth and Adams feels his side can continue their good form.
He added: "We have had a bit of luck today but you can't always keep going that way, you do have to focus on other things.
"But that's five games unbeaten for us now and I'm proud of them."
