Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised the attitude of former captain William Gallas in the wake of his controversial comments.
Gallas was relieved of his position as skipper last week after he publicly criticised his team-mates, revealing unrest in the dressing room.
Wenger, though, has paid tribute to the 31-year-old defender's renewed focus, insisting he has demonstrated his commitment to the cause.
"William has come out of this situation with a lot of credit from me because he is as committed as ever," he said on Sky Sports News.
"He organises the defence very well in training and works very hard. I think that is credit to him."
Wenger also feels new captain Cesc Fabregas should let his football do the talking as he prepares to lead out his team-mates against Chelsea.
Fabregas was unveiled as Gallas' successor earlier this week and recorded success in his first game with the armband on Tuesday night against Dynamo Kiev.
Wenger has shrugged off question marks over the appointment of the 21-year-old, insisting his wealth of experience at such a young age and quality as a player justifies his potential to prove a success in the role.
The French coach said: "I want him firstly to do well at his job and not be too worried about the rest.
"That is the best way to be a captain. Play well and lead by example, and the rest comes alone.
"Already he has played over 200 games for the club. He is 26-years-old instead of 21. He has to just behave like he's used to."
