Scolari - Prem is physical

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari is enjoying managing in the physicality of the Premier League.

The committed nature of England's top flight has been called into question following Arsenal's loss to Stoke City last weekend.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger intimated that some Potters players sought to injure his squad during the encounter.

Scolari concedes the Premier League is a combative division but is not of the belief that players' safety is in jeopardy.

The Brazilian said: "Yes, sometimes the games are more physical than I was expecting.

"Sometimes we need to adapt to sides that are much bigger than our players. Sometimes teams play with more physical contact, but not to injure someone."

On Friday, Scolari was handed the LMA Performance Award for the first quarter of the season - an accolade based on a points system that includes the amount of games won, the margin of the victory, clean sheets kept and results away from home.

Of his short time at Chelsea, he said: "I think I have learnt more than I have taught my players. I have learnt a lot about English football. I am very happy here."
