Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is set to be sidelined for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Spanish striker has been dogged by hamstring trouble all season but had appeared to be back to full fitness after starting against Fulham at the weekend and then Marseille on Wednesday.
He completed 90 minutes as Liverpool beat the French side 1-0 but picked up a problem and had to be assessed on Thursday morning.
Scans have now shown that Torres will be out for at least a fortnight, meaning he will miss the Premier League matches against West Ham and Blackburn.
He will also have to sit out Liverpool's final UEFA Champions League group game at PSV Eindhoven and could be doubtful for the league clash with Hull on 13th December.
Defender Fabio Aurelio has also been ruled out for two weeks with a calf injury.
"Fernando has a strain in his right hamstring and will be out of action for between two and three weeks," a Liverpool spokesman confirmed on the club's official website.
"Fabio has a calf strain in his left leg and will be out for two weeks."
