Sir Alex Ferguson refuses to be drawn on suggestions that Manchester United would be better off losing Wednesday's Carling Cup quarter-final against Blackburn.
A United victory would close off two more midweek dates in January when his side would be involved in semi-final games.
Ferguson is already attempting to find a suitable date for their Premier League game against Fulham which was postponed in August.
And United's fixture against Wigan on 20th December has been called off due to United's participation in the Club World Cup in Tokyo, beginning on 11th December.
The situation reflects that faced by Rangers last season when their Uefa Cup run saw them miss out on both European and Scottish Premier League silverware.
But Ferguson refuses to succumb to their fixture pile-up despite admitting that it would prove difficult to fit in all the games.
"We have to make up those two games and, depending on our progress in the cup competitions, it could prove a minefield trying to get dates," said Ferguson.
"We have one or two pencilled in but it depends how we get on next Wednesday against Blackburn because that would take two semi-final dates.
"After that, the availability of fixtures dries up. You don't have them because you are looking at the end of February or March, when the Champions League starts again.
"And if you don't get them then you are looking at a Rangers situation, or the one we were in during 1992. You don't want that."
