Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has begun preliminary discussions over a new contract at Anfield.
The Spaniard, who has 18 months remaining on his present deal, is eager to secure a fresh, long-term agreement on Merseyside as he goes in search of Premier League glory.
Last week news emerged that Liverpool co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks were keen to secure Benitez, who also indicated that he was eager to stay in England.
A representative of Benitez - who has been named Manager of the Month for October - has now held initial talks with the Liverpool hierarchy but the former Valencia boss insists that the intricate details have yet to be discussed.
"I want to clarify the situation over my new contract. My advisor has had contact with the club's owners, and they will have a meeting in the future, hopefully next week," said Benitez.
"But I want to make it clear that no details were discussed. Not the length of the contract, nor money or any conditions.
"None of those things were discussed. There has been contact and now things will start progressing."
Benitez, who joined Liverpool in 2004, has also stated that he is keen to concentrate on football, beginning with Saturday's trip to Bolton.
The 48-year-old will, therefore, leave further business to his representative as second-placed Liverpool focus on mounting a realistic title challenge.
"In the future my agent will be talking about this with the club and I will concentrate on football, because I do not want to be talking about things every week that can distract the players," added Benitez.
"They will talk next week and hopefully there will be progress, but I do not want to be involved in those talks."
