Newcastle United's interim manager Joe Kinnear is hoping to turn his first win at the club into his second - and by doing so change the way the table looks.
Their 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion lifts them out of the Premier League drop zone and up to 15th place, to the relief of the short-term boss.
He told Sky Sports: "We desperately needed that tonight. We will be looking at the league tomorrow and see a different picture - we are on the up. It's a great night for everybody concerned because it's always nice to get your first victory.
"It gets us away from that old cliché. Everyone's been pointing the finger at us for being in the bottom three - no-one wants to be in that position.
"But if we can get a second victory, two wins back to back, we will see a different picture altogether and of course that gives everybody confidence."
The Magpies had a 2-0 lead at half-time but an impressive goal by substitute Ishmael Miller put West Brom right back in it with 25 minutes to go - and the nerves were more than obvious.
"I think it was (a bit nervy)," said Kinnear.
"We started dropping deeper and deeper trying to protect what we had got, and instead of going for it we sat back a little bit and started causing our own problems.
"But in the end we were the worthy winners."
